Government environmental programs generate large volumes of laboratory, field, spatial and historical information. The central challenge is not simply collecting it, but maintaining a reliable record that can support decisions, audits and public communication for years or decades.

A single groundwater, contaminated-land or infrastructure program may involve government officers, laboratories, consultants, field contractors, asset managers, GIS specialists and independent auditors. Each participant can produce information in a different format, under different naming conventions and at different intervals.

The update has been designed to make fieldwork simpler, more informative, and easier to navigate—while retaining the familiar concepts and workflows existing ESdat users already know.

Ohio EPA updates Voluntary Action Program standards

Ohio environmental professionals should now use the Voluntary Action Program standards that took effect on 16 February 2025.

The update revised Ohio Administrative Code Rule 3745-300-08 and its chemical-specific tables. It replaced the previous version, which had been effective since 17 October 2019. The standards apply to voluntary investigations and cleanups involving hazardous substances or petroleum releases.
