PFAS NEMP 3.0 Now Available in ESdat Online and Environmental Standards Reference List

Australia’s environmental professionals now have streamlined access to the newly released PFAS National Environmental Management Plan Version 3.0 (PFAS NEMP 3.0), which is officially available in ESdat Online and listed in the ESdat Environmental Standards Reference List.

Released on 5 March 2025 by the Environment Ministers of Australia, PFAS NEMP 3.0 represents a major update to the national guidance for managing per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). The third iteration of the plan reflects the latest scientific understanding and provides critical updates to support consistent regulation and management of PFAS-contaminated land, water, and waste across Australia and New Zealand.

Key updates in NEMP 3.0 include:

• Revised guideline values for soil, water, and biota;

• Updated remediation guidance including treatment hierarchies and long-term strategies;

• New criteria for the reuse of biosolids and other resource recovery products;

• Enhanced protocols for PFAS monitoring, sampling, and analysis.

In response to its release, Earth Science Information Systems (EScIS) has updated ESdat Online to incorporate PFAS NEMP 3.0 into its comprehensive database of environmental standards. This allows ESdat users to seamlessly apply the new PFAS guidelines during site assessments, compliance reviews, and environmental reporting.

Professionals can now compare site data against the updated PFAS guideline values and apply risk-based thresholds within the ESdat platform. This simplifies regulatory alignment and supports better environmental outcomes.
